Gun halp halp

My gun's a Marui Mini-Steyr - the hop-up, top-loading version. Runs on four AA batteries. See pic below.

The vendor tells me the thing will only run on the Panasonic Alkaline batteries he sells. Says that any other batteries will strain the motor and foul it up. Is he bullshitting me? Can my gun actually take any sort of AA batteries?

AA batteries do have different voltage depending on their composition, but alkaline batteries are specified to provide 1.5V (so 6V for the set) and therefore should all put the same load on the motor.

Thanks, guys. Contemplating having to drive forty kilometers to his store just to pick up those damn batteries made me cringe.
