A little help from my friends Empty A little help from my friends

Post by Cherubino Wed 6 Jul 2011 - 0:38

Hey guys! Long time no talk.

I am writing because I need some advice. My brother is in need of a good anime to watch. Here’s the thing though: he’s super picky. He hates the anime I like such as Full Metal Alchemist and GSG (though we both really love Tenchi and Gundam).

He only really enjoys action anime. He likes Medieval fantasy stuff. We’re talking elves, magic, samurai, and feudalism. And blood. Bloody fighting is good.

Some titles he’s watched and liked are Berserk, Samurai 7, Ninja Scroll, and Rurouni Kenshin. He wants to watch Record of the Loduss War but we don’t know how to get it and we don’t do torrents etc. is there a way to get it though?

Some titles he’s tried and didn’t like are Claymore (that show was gross. Even I didn’t like it), Basilisk, Bleach, Naruto, and Afro Samurai. He watched a few episodes of Spice and Wolf but he didn’t really see it going anywhere fast though he may pick it up again if you guys can vouch for it.

And for myself, is there any pirate anime out there that isn’t retarded like One Piece?

One last thing... He prefers things that are dubbed. Very Happy

Hmm..

Lodoss War was licensed in the US many a decade back on VHS and I believe it did get a dub.

If you don't want to torrent, then you're probably limited to something like Netflix.

Medieval fantasy, you say? Start him on Slayers. NOW. As for pirates, nothing beats Captain Harlock. Both have sterling dubs, so you're in for a hell of a ride.

He said he tried Slayers and didn't really get into it but he said if you guys suggest it he will try to give it another chance. It sounds good to me though! ^.^
Captain Harlock sounds... Very interesting. I wanna give it a try!

I have netflix and they have a piss poor selection of anime and Hindi movies that I've grown to love...
Thanks for the help so far though fellas! Very Happy

I have it. I love it... matter of fact, I think I will go plug it in RIGHT NOW.

Also, Slayers is God-Tier. Seriously. One of the DEFINING series in the genre, much like Lodoss War, but in a different direction. Highly, HIGHLY recommended.

Slayers is a laugh riot, especially the first series.

Has he seen the two Ghost in the Shell Standalone Complex TV series? They are loaded with action and have a fantastic dub - I actually prefer the English voice cast to the Japanese.

OMG Cheru!!!!!! <3333333 Very Happy Of corse we'll help you out! ^____^

I saw this on the Funmation channel and thought it looked really interesting. :3 I never saw a full episode, but the opening is beautiful! <3

I highly highly recommend Air. I know it doesn't match what you want, but it's too amazing to not recommend! ^_^

Edit: Oh also Elfen Lied. Idk if you will like it, (it has a lot of gore and nudity) but it has a great story!! ^_^

I don't really have anything else atm. D: I'll try and think of other things! ^_^

Hmm.....as for bloody good bloody fighting, I can't recommend anything more awesome in that aspect then Hellsing(which also has an awesome dub).

And as for pirates and junk, the entire Galaxy Express 999 series is full of win, which includes Captain Harlock and Queen Emeraldus. Cobra is kinda sorta up that alley as is Black Lagoon(another awesome dub BTW...."Chinglish"... ROTFL ). There's also Coyote Ragtime Show and a personal favorite of mine Outlaw Star.

I guess it all depends on what your definition of "pirate" is. Razz

On the pirate anime front, I'll throw my lot in Captain Harlock as well.

Bloody fighting, Fist of the North Star but that may scream DBZ too much to some folks.

Murder Princess has good fights and is in a medevil setting. I will also recommend slayers as well. Bastard is another older tittle you could try but it might be hard to find. If he likes gundam and fantasy you could try Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha as it is gundam meets magical girl and its decent. The second season is the best of the three.

Your brother might like Samurai Champloo. It wasn't my bag, but it meets the samurai, action, and dub requirements.
