Helen of Troy
I'm sort of new to this and it's best I do chapters in somewhat small bites, otherwise I'll never finish anything. This is a story arc concerning not just the my main OCs, but other OCs I will introduce and flesh out along the way.
- Spoiler:
- I.
Delanna walked through what was half street light and half moon light. She always liked taking walks in the fall evenings, though this time there was no way she could shake any feeling of nervousness that often plagued her. She was always called timid, despite her conditioning, and she wanted to prove her nerve, here. She looked back down the dimly-lit street, the truck with her handler and reinforcements was barely visible where she was standing, it seemed to blend into the darkness as her destination started to come out of the darkness.
She could start to see the moonlight glittering off of the water, and the playground that was her target. A figure on top of the jungle gym started to come into view, leaning back casually. Delanna slowed her pace as the moment of confrontation came closing fast in on her.
Her conditioning kicked in, though, and she strode forward, stopping abruptly before she stepped on the playground area, marked by it's wood-chip flooring. The figure sitting atop the playground equipment did not turn around. Delanna fingered the grip on her pistol, and her eyes seemed to sharpen as she learned the brevity of the situations.
"There are landmines in this playground," she said loudly, so that the figure could hear.
"I know," the figure said, and a quickly-moving dicus-shaped object came flying through the air towards Delanna's head. She caught it quickly in one hand and drew her pistol, training it on the figure as they jumped from the jungle gym onto the ground in front of her.
"I disarmed them," the silhouette said as it emerged from obscurity, revealing an average-sized girl in haphazardly arranged ponytail, and most notably, a plain black eyepatch covering her right eye and tattered jacket and jeans.
Delanna looked at the object in her hand, and realized it was one of the mines, with key components stripped out. She kept her pistol up, though, dropping the disabled mine.
"If you didn't put them here, then who did?" Delanna asked, trying hard to remove the shake from her voice.
"I'd imagine it'd be someone wishing you would just send in some commandos in here blindly to this meeting trying to kill me, getting all of us in the process," the girl said, casually mounting herself on one of the spring-based horsey rides not far from where Delanna was standing.
"Do you know who they are?" Delanna asked, getting noticeably frustrated, as her forearm holding the gun started to lax from all the conversation.
"Sure, I had a chat with them. Well, not really, it's more like I overheard their private conversation. They're in that building over there, watching and recording this conversation, and waiting for a time to ambush us. Now that I have made their presence known, however, they will likely drop that plan and flee as soon as possible. At least, that's what I would do, I can't speak to their intelligence," the girl said while rocking back and forth on the child's ride. Delanna looked around at the building the girl gestured at with her eyes, switching between aiming back and forth between this strange girl and the possible threat of an ambush from the northeast.
The girl jumped from the ride, spinning in midair before tripping and falling on the wood-chipped ground, making a loud 'oof' sound and coughing slightly as she came up.
"I can never land after the dismount," she said, dusting her already worn-out clothes off.
"Just tell me who they are, Cyclops!" Delanna shouted, trying her best to look as intimidating as possible.
"Leftists. Probably some collaboration between the various groups. They're the only ones actively trying to kill me. Don't get me wrong, I dislike children, a nice fireworks show in the afternoon would be entertaining, at least," the girl known to the Agency as Cyclops said, chuckling a bit at the end. Delanna's eyes narrowed.
"You shouldn't joke about such things. Are you going to give me what I came here, alone, under a threat of an ambush for?" Delanna said, her temper rising.
"Most people show up for my unique brand of charismatic wit," the girl said, walking away from Delanna, taking a swig from a flask she kept on her belt, next to her pistol. "The package in question will be transported from Innsbruck to Trento by car, then heli'd to a secure area outside of Verona. I emailed the exact coordinates to your handler's personal address under the subject line 'Natural Enhancement for Males'."
"What's the package, exactly?" Delanna asked, her gun now in its holster, though still gripped by her hand.
"You'll love it, I promise you that," she chuckled, but abruptly changed her face to a determined and serious look. "Do you have my payment, now?" she asked as she folded her arms.
Delanna seemed to roll her eyes as she unzipped a deep pocket in her jacket, and pulled out a sealed large envelope. In one quick motion the girl took the envelope and cut open the top of the envelope, taking out the content. She held it up to the moonlight to reveal a well-preserved magazine with Marilyn Monroe holding her hand up in the air, laughing with a careless facial expression under her golden locks.
"You did all that for the first issue of Playboy?" Delanna asked in a dead tone signifying disgust. The girl scoffed heavily and turned back.
"Do you know what some of the guys on the internet community would do to get the hands on just a perfect replica of this? And it's in excellent condition! I have to give it to you Agency nerds!" she said, flipping through the pages and taking in the smell. She put her serious face back on and slipped it back in the envelope, tucking it in her own jacket.
"Are we done here?" Delanna asked, clearly wanting to end this particular conversation.
"Yes, yes, go back to your puppet masters now. I'm sure you'll get a piece of cake as a reward for all your hard work," the girl said as she sat back down on the horsey ride, watching the raven-haired girl sternly walk away in her expensive clothes. She smiled.
"She ought to be some fun," Livia thought to herself. She heard a car speed off in the distance.

Curious, suspenseful and amusing, all rolled into one. I like the notion of the Agency being in league with morally ambiguous third parties.

Re: Helen of Troy
That's a bizarre & somewhat creepy location for a late-night meeting...well played. Her conditioning kicked in, though, and she strode forward, stopping abruptly before she stepped on the playground area, marked by it's wood-chip flooring.
A classic cyborg move; low light, fast reaction plus multi-tasking.a quickly-moving dicus-shaped object came flying through the air towards Delanna's head. She caught it quickly in one hand and drew her pistol,
Plus, it would provide a group of new prospects for the Agency as well.Don't get me wrong, I dislike children, a nice fireworks show in the afternoon would be entertaining, at least,"
Handler: Awww shit! I just deleted that one!I emailed the exact coordinates to your handler's personal address under the subject line 'Natural Enhancement for Males'."
A suitably irreverent conclusion given the character profile you've given for Livia."Do you know what some of the guys on the internet community would do to get the hands on just a perfect replica of this? And it's in excellent condition! I have to give it to you Agency nerds!"
Hardly an insult to SWA cyborgs..."Yes, yes, go back to your puppet masters now. I'm sure you'll get a piece of cake as a reward for all your hard work,"
Henrietta: Hold on...there's cake?
Marisa: Cake sounds good right about now.
Kara: Ooh! I have an excellent recipe for a German chocolate cake!
I'm usually not a huge fan of "outside the SWA" cyborg stories (since relationships within the Agency are such an important part of the GsG dynamic), but you've got me interested in seeing more...particularly the introduction of Livia's handler (Nero, right?). Good start...I look forward to the next installment!
