Fresh fish
Hi all,
Thanks for maintaining a GSG forum! I'm glad to be aboard. I've only known about "Gunslinger Girl" for about a year, having first seen "Il Teatrino" and then picking up the manga series 1-6 (so far). I had the opportunity to finally see the first series last week, and really enjoyed seeing the expanded roles of Claes, Elsa de Sica, and Lauro. (I was suprised to see that Elsa and Lauro's story managed to take up three episodes!) GSG is probably the most interesting manga/anime series I've seen, and I find the differences between the girls and how their handlers treat them very intriguing.
As for other interests, I tend to like anime and manga stories that are more realistic and/or historical. I'm not really into those that are goofy and cute or feature giant robots. But there are occasional exceptions...
I've also been an American Civil War reenactor for about ten years. "Fresh fish" is slang for a new recruit.

Greetings & Salutations Galatia/Linda; it sounds as if you've come to the right place.
Bravo. While I'm sure there are plenty of fans for those genres here, know that you are not alone.galatia9 wrote:I'm not really into those that are goofy and cute or feature giant robots.

Welcome aboard, fishy! *Tips his cover*
I started with Il Teatrino as well... I wonder if in so doing, we've gotten a different view of the sequel from others here - it seems as though Il Teatrino has a mixed rep around here, for various reasons, and I'd be interested in hearing your views on it.
Also, a Civil War Reenactor? Which regiment? Or is that a tad too much at this stage?
In any case, happy to have you here! Hope to hear more from ya!

Re: Fresh fish
Thanks, all! What a nice welcome. As a Civil War reenactor, I'm a musician, a fifer. I don't represent any particular person, though some people like to portray their own ancestors. My fife and drum corps doesn't portray any particular unit either. (Ideally, each company would have a fifer and drummer of its own, and then they would get together to play at the regimental level.) Usually we are a Union corps, but we also like to dress up as Confederates once in a while and switch sides for fun. And I never dress as a girl, you wouldn't catch me dead in a hoop skirt. Unfortunately we are in Washington State, and of course don't have ties to any wartime regimental units, but some of our infantry units portray companies from the 20th Maine, 15th Alabama, 7th South Carolina and 7th Wisconsin, among others. Sometimes it's funny for me to think that ACW reenactors have been cosplaying and LARPing since the sixties.
Officer_Charon, I can't help liking "Il Teatrino" because without it, I wouldn't have known about GSG at all. So I will probably be in your camp on that subject. I did notice that it has a mixed rep at several review sites as well as here. I thought the scripting was fine and I liked the music for it, and I liked the drawing style even though the girls are a bit more big eyed and cute compared to the first series. I thought that the adult characters looked a little more true to Yu Aida's drawings than in the first series (especially Franca). Just my opinion. I do need to watch them all over again, though, it's been about a year since I saw it.
maverick375, I don't have any specific preference for weapons, as I'm not very familiar with them. I was in the Navy for eight years, but my experience with firearms was pretty much limited to only the first two years I was in. And I like all of the cyborgs, though I might have a fondness for Rico, because she's so cheerful and well adjusted (!). I like Claes too. I feel sorry for her, and I like it when she gets to see some action for a change. In general, I like all the characters. Even the "bad" guys often have redeeming qualities. I think it would be great to see Ferro more often, and it would be interesting to see if Fermi and Gabrielli move over to Section 2 some time (as Giuseppe thought they would make good handlers).
emperor, Shucks, yer embarrassing me.

Re: Fresh fish
Welcome to the forum Galatina. Hope you've been enjoying the place. We offer a lot in the GSG field. We are, after all, one of, if not still the only, GSG specialty forum in existence.
Must be interesting to be part of a Civil War Reenactment Corp. I can't say I've ever really had the chance to talk to an actual reenactor. We here up in the Cheese State don't seem to make much of a big deal about it, so I've never had the experience.
And for a random note, Totoum, for that Future Diary sig picture, I hereby give you the most awesome high five I have ever bestowed. That manga needs more fans.

You might be surprised. There must be some reenacting units up there in WI. After all, I'm in Washington State, and even WE have some. I really enjoy it, though it gets tougher to do as I get older.Probit Return wrote:Must be interesting to be part of a Civil War Reenactment Corp. Triela, I really like all the girls (and the handlers too), but I think Rico and Claes are two of my favorites.
