Hey :)
Hello everybody. I found this site while looking for more GsG related stuff to read after getting hooked on the manga (read all chapters on mangafox in 2 days )
Have been lurking around here, but haven't seen an answer to my question yet thus: With some of the problems faced by the agency in using guy handlers to partner up with the girls, why haven't we seen a woman handler? The conditioning would still bind the cyborgs to them through loyalty, but the complications that would occur if it eventually translates into love would not crop up such as with Elsa. It wouldn't be fairly hard to get a woman with the expertise needed to train the girls.

There's no hard and fast rule that says only men can become handlers. In fact, I like to think Pris and Olga might become handlers in their own right someday. Welcome aboard!

Heh that would be good, i would like to see Priscilla as a handler. Might be that she overwhelms her cyborg with affection, would like to see the handler-cyborg relationship reversed for once

Re: Hey :)
First up, welcome to the fold.
I think, at least in terms of canon, sticking to male handlers fits the themes that GSG explores better. As you said, the fact that problems crop up in terms of attachment and so on between a female cyborg and male handler is part of the way the characters develop and how they deal with the situation they're in. It shapes how they react, how they respond, how they view the world and interact with it. I tend to view GSG as a character study as much as anything else, so am willing to make concessions to what would be logical and easy if it means a more interesting read.
That said, there's more than a few female handlers kicking around in fan-fiction

Re: Hey :)
That's true.. though it's really sad that the growth of their character development is limited by their memory loss and their short and now ending lifespan. I can't really imagine how GsG would be without the 1st generation girls.

Lol. Funny you should say that Nacht. As I'm using Priscilla as my OC's handler...due primarily to me being too lazy to create an actual handler.
Oh and greetings, Synasta. Welcome to the forum.

Greetings & salutations Synasta!
Hang around here long enough and you'll see every "rule" of canon turned on its head, so if you wish to create a woman handler...cool, have at it.
Enjoy the forum!

The whole attachment thing can get stale, though.Alfisti wrote:I think, at least in terms of canon, sticking to male handlers fits the themes that GSG explores better. WELCOME!!!
If you look in the frames in volume nine where the handlers are all attending the meeting to be told about Angelica, there IS a woman there, standing against the back wall amidst the other (possibly) Gen-Two handlers next to Sandro. Specifically Pg 97:3

Re: Hey :)
Which is why I'm perfectly happy to encounter female handlers in fanfiction and, for that matter, if Yu decides to introduce one I won't argue.Nachtsider wrote:The whole attachment thing can get stale, though.Alfisti wrote:I think, at least in terms of canon, sticking to male handlers fits the themes that GSG explores better. However, one think I'm finding regards drawing comics is that there's only so much ground you can cover, significantly less than with written prose I imagine. With respect to that if you're aiming to investigate and explore a particular theme it makes sense to find a particular focus rather than introducing new, potentially disparate elements. It can be done, but you're setting yourself a challenge. More to the fact, there's a risk there of trying to cover too much ground and spread the work too thin.

Thanks for all the welcomes, and my favourite character is Rico. I just love her carefree attitude, it's just too bad she doesn't get alot of screen time.
