Global Warming (or lack there of)
For those who haven't heard, Texas got a freaking ton of snow today. As in 7-8 inches in my area. I think that's more than all the snow I've seen in the past two decades combined. Not to mention that this is at least the fourth snow this winter - we usually get a range of zero to two snows per winter with one annual snow being the most common. This is really cool for us, literally. Oh, and it was t-shirt weather a couple of weeks ago. I love Texas.

A few years back it snowed on X-Mas morning here in South Louisiana. It was then that I saw 2 Louisiana kids trying to go sledding for the first time. They had neither a sled, nor a hill, so they took turns pushing eachother around on the lid of their father's beer cooler.

I've seen none for a few years (I'm originally from NY, and have lived in Denver, Germany & Seattle so I've seen more than enough). The cold, miserable rain made up for it all day today.

Meanwhile, Vancouver just experienced its warmest January on record, so we had to truck snow from Manning Park (probably about a three hour drive) to some of the lower elevation mountains around here so they could meet their Olympic Venue commitments.

global warming doesn't just mean it gets hotter,it results in shifts of weather patterns leading to extremes of weather, all of this has happened before and will probably happen again, its just that we've tipped the balance a bit early and sped it up slightly

We got 2 feet where I am. :3 I don't have to shovel either. It's nice living in an apartment with no rules about sidewalk cleaning. We did have some epic snowball fights. >o<

Agreed; it's a politically contentious issue all over the world, but it is just naive to think humanity can release billions of tons of sequestered carbon into a closed system and expect nothing to happen.

I don't want to start a massive argument about global warming here, but I would like to point out that, as far as your thread title is concerned, "global warming" or, more correctly put, "global climate change", refers to an overall trend of changes in climate that is generally considered to be a result of man-made carbon dioxide emissions (in many, but not all areas, a warming trend, thus the name "global warming"). This cannot be disproved by one incident of heavy snowfall. This is because climate refers to the overall trend of temperature and atmospheric conditions over a long period of time (multiple years, usually decades or longer) in an area. For instance, you would say the climate of Texas consists of mild winters and warm to hot summers, with highest precipitation in the spring and fall months. This is states that on average, winters in Texas are mild. This does not state that you cannot have heavy snowfall in Texas on occasion, even with a trend of changes in global climate, because individual snowstorms, and even a year with unusual high snowfall are weather phenomena. Weather refers to temperature atmospheric conditions on a daily basis. Climate change does not make anomalous weather conditions impossible, it only changes the general trend of climate.

As of Friday afternoon, 49 states have been dusted with snow. Guess which one is the holdout (which has had snow before).

Dude, it's just a joke, chill out. I could personally care less about the whole "climate change" deal.SPARTAN 119 wrote:
Incorrect. Texas weather is Texas weather. It does what it pleases when it pleases. It's varies from year to year and from day to day. We can go from wearing t-shirts and shorts one day to wearing heavy coats the next. Some winters are nice and warm, and some winters are very cold (by our standards at least ). Some summers are quite hot, and others are nice. In Texas, climate change is a daily thing.SPARTAN 119 wrote:For instance, you would say the climate of Texas consists of mild winters and warm to hot summers, with highest precipitation in the spring and fall months. The last snow we had of this magnitude was, to my knowledge, in the '60s. So everybody got excited that they could actually see real snow at home. Oh, and I should mention that it never actually got below freezing - we just got the snow, not the cold. It was so awesome.SPARTAN 119 wrote:This does not state that you cannot have heavy snowfall in Texas on occasion
Don't tell me Hawai'i got snow and you didn't. That would be funny.Sakura wrote:As of Friday afternoon, 49 states have been dusted with snow. Guess which one is the holdout (which has had snow before).

That would be hilarious. We have Tahoe and Mammoth, which have been getting plenty of snow lately. Though it would be pretty awesome to say you snowboarded in Hawaii.KodokuRyuu wrote:Don't tell me Hawai'i got snow and you didn't. Global Warming? There is no Global Warming!!
It's a propaganda conspiracy by the power conglomerates and the A/C industry to get us to buy bigger, juice-guzzling, central cooling units!
