Since I have little drawing talent, I thought I'd tell some stories using pictures of cute Japanese girls I come across on the Internet. Many of these will be girls other than Kara's "official model" Chiaki Kudou, so suspend your sense of disbelief please. Smile

Fratello means "brother" and symbolizes that the bond between a handler and cyborg is as close as family. And though at times they may be apart physically, spiritually the bond remains strong.

However, they still miss the absence of the other and long for their return.

There were a few good examples of that in canon...Claes waiting at her window for Raballo, Henrietta dashing out as soon as she hears Giuse's Porsche (in the kaleidoscope chapter).

In that context, this is a very melancholy picture.

Michele: I'm only going to be gone for 3 days, to see to my business interests in California.
Kara: I wish I could go with you...
Michele: I know, but you have training, and you've missed enough school already. Now, I know you're very responsible, but I'm going to ask one of the other handlers to look in on you...to keep an eye on things.
Kara: Sure, just...not Jean, okay?
Michele: (chuckles) Of course, not Jean.
Kara: And not Hillshire, he'll have me studying the Illiad with Triela...and not Mr. Elio either, he can be way too strict!
Michele: Ummm, okay.
Kara: And not Giuseppe, he kinda weirds me out the way he fawns over 'Etta.
Michele: But Kara, all the other handlers are out on missions...except...Oh, hell no! I am not leaving you with Alessandro Rissi!

This came up in another thread, and I theorized that this is why the girls attend school instead of having all the information they need imprinted on them. Neither Triela nor Claes were Italian in their former lives, so they must have had the Italian language imprinted on them during conditioning. So, if Italian, why not all the other languages and knowledge they will need?

As I said before; Idle hands are the devil's plaything, and they need something to occupy their attention during those boring periods of down-time.

A fratelli has to be adaptable enough to be able to work in most any environment in the pursuit of their objective. To that end, it is important that a handler exercise care when choosing a stakeout location or a sniper hide.

But a handler is only human, and sometimes their judgement is called into question by their cyborg, who is not always impressed with their choices...

It's more all the figures flashing their panties and boobs that Kara is less than impressed with. Not to mention she can't understand how someone with a bust size in the triple digits can dance around like a Magical Girl or properly bend over to serve afternoon tea on a silver tray without pitching over...

I figure it's just another super-power: like being able to squirm into a hero outfit, or deliver a long speech whilst flying through the air toward the enemy... all in the space of one panel.

Okay, story idea...Lorenzo deploys the fratello to Akihabara with orders for Kara to infiltrate the girl-pop group AKB48. Once she accomplishes this, it is revealed that there was no mission after all...the Chief just has a really sick sense of humor. Michele knew this, but went along with the joke anyway.

I based the outfit Kara wore to Maranello in Christenings on the one AKB48 wore for their song "Seifuku Ga Jama Wo Suru (My School Uniform's Getting In The Way)". sweat

The PRF operative ran through the warren of narrow back alleys, calling on his own knowledge of the city gained as a young boy running errands for his older brother and his "associates". He heard the shrill whistle of the Carabinieri Appuntato leading the pursuit, but with every corner the sound faded and he slowed, allowing his lungs to take deep breaths to dispel the burning in his muscles from the exertion. After a moment, he headed off with a jaunty gate to his step towards the pre-arranged pick-up point, on the other side of the motorway.

He rounded the corner into an open area. Beyond lay a weathered stone bridge and through the yawning dark tunnel he knew freedom awaited. His thoughts were so focussed on the cold beer that awaited him that his brain didn't register at first the teen girl standing in the middle of the open area before the tunnel. Her bright pink jacket and long white dress stood out against the tan dirt floor and moss-coated walls. He saw her stance was one of relaxation, her brown cowgirl boots spread slightly apart. A closer examination of her face revealed her Asian features and her black hair draped over the front of her shoulders in twin tails.

What's an Asian tourist doing here?
