Personality tests Empty Personality tests

Post by LoC978 Sat 13 Sep 2008 - 16:51

So anyway, I was suckered into taking a personality test again... I do this on occasion when I have time to reflect upon my life... get some sort of desire to 'find myself'... blah blah blah...
anyway, I got a chuckle or two out of the results... so I looked for our old spam topic on this subject (though it started off specifically about our OCs and what each of their MBTIs would be).
Lo and behold, the topic has been deleted at some point.

So here's the test I took recently... admittedly it's rather biased by the creator's opinions... but at least he/she has a sense of humor. and here are the results that made me chuckle (with my first mental responses in red afterwards... spoiler tagged 'cause it turned out kinda long):
Spoiler:

If you want a more serious breakdown, though, here's the test for MBTI.
...incidentally, I end up tied for INTJ and ISTJ

and for the myriad other tests available on that site (the SLOAN test is pretty accurate, too... but I haven't taken it in awhile. It has different focuses in its answers from the MBTI test... handy to have another perspective)... here.

Additionally, here's a little test about general political matters. I've found it to be about the only unbiased one available.
Spoiler:

no better way to spend a hangover...
also, I just do this out of curiosity (thankfully, I'm not a cat). 'tis a free internet, so no pressure, but I am curious to see some other people's results.

Also my political leanings simplified into a two dimensional graph. A little simplistic perhaps, but It's nice to know I score in the area of Gandhi, Dr Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, and the Dalai Lama.

all these tests are going to leave me neurotic... if I'm not already...

so anyway, I took the Enneagram/Jung Test again, and a interesting thing happened with the Jung results:
Introverted (I) 78.57% Extroverted (E) 21.43%
Sensing (S) 50% Intuitive (N) 50%
Thinking (T) 85.19% Feeling (F) 14.81%
Perceiving (P) 50% Judging (J) 50%

so this time I'm an INTJ/ISTJ/INTP/ISTP. Laughing
**edit**
this just occurred to me, but it seems on the MBTI, I could simply be considered an 'IT' (Introverted, Thinking homocidal clown)

as for the Enneagram results...

i've tried this kind of test in my character class

i was INTJ

i was the only one in my class, my class was about 48to50 people

it is said that INTJ is only 1% of the population, perhaps that's why i think i'm so much different than anyone else around me

ISTJ - "Trustee". Decisiveness in practical
affairs. Guardian of time- honored institutions. Dependable. 11.6% of
total population.

That's for my Jung MBTI test.

Type 1 Perfectionism |||||||||||||||||||| 90%
Type 2 Helpfulness |||||||||||||||||| 74%
Type 3 Image Focus |||||||||||||||||| 74%
Type 4 Hypersensitivity |||||||||||||||||||| 82%
Type 5 Detachment |||||||||||||||||||| 90%
Type 6 Anxiety |||||||||||||||||||| 90%
Type 7 Adventurousness |||||||||| 34%
Type 8 Aggressiveness |||||||||||| 42%
Type 9 Calmness |||||||||||||||| 62%
And this is my Enneagram test.

Now to slam personality tests. They are not perfect. For one, the MBTI is based on Jung's introversion-extroversion theory and has a lot of problems from a psychologist's point of view. For one, there is no statistical rigour. Two, if Jung's theory handled introversion and extroversion of 4 categories, then why are there only 5 options? Shouldn't there be 8? By the way, the MBTI wasn't designed by psychologists.

Personality tests are normally not part of a psychologist's inventory. They tend to pigeonhole people into categories that don't reflect the full nature of the individual and the implication is that the 6 billion odd people in the world only have, what, 4 or 5 personalities. Besides, for most tests you will get a degree of accuracy. When a psychologist administers IQ tests, they will give you the result and then let you know the degree of accuracy (for IQ tests that are part of the inventory, the accuracy is usually 98% or more). Personality tests don't have this.

So if you do get a strange personality, don't worry. These are just for fun.

Nope, they'll never. Personality tests are actually viewed very lowly by psychologists because they serve little purpose other than entertainment. They certainly won't earn anyone a PhD.

Anyway to be fair there are personality tests that are part of a psychologist's inventory but they aren't anything like the stuff you see on the net. One famous one is the Roschach test, commonly known to laymen as the inkblot test. Another is the MMPI-2. However, both have little use unless you're dealing with the deviant cases like murderers who kill for fun. Those have very interesting results with these 2 tests.

Psyches hate it when you tell them that it looks like an ink blot created on a folded piece of paper. They hate it even more when you take their not pad, break their pens and make an ink blot of your own and show it to them!

Yeah- I did that... (I have less respect for psychologist than I do for medical doctors!)

Oh yes. They do hate that. But it's not the worst. Once my lecturer showed us one of his case studies where the chap was convinced that he was a psychologist. The whole theater was laughing after 5 min.

Patient A: Have you been taking your medication?
Dr. B: Hold on. You're the one prescribed medication
A: No, you're hallucinating again and obviously haven't been taking your pills
B: Wait...
A: I need to restrain you before you hurt me (patient turns violent at this point)
A: (upon being restrained) Why are you restraining me? He's the one that hit me...

The full case was extremely funny

Ah, shrinks. I have to take a bi-weekly 'stress test' in order to maintain my Pediatric clearance.

Personally, I've always preffered the Steve Buscemi method to taking the Rorshach test.

I am currently finishing up a college course on Career Interest Review, and there are too many disillusioned people out there that believe that once you get your BA/BS in Psyche, they can go anywhere! Bah!!! I already did a career review in Psych (although my degree will be in Communications), just to shatter their little world and let reality fall upon them like black rain after a nuclear bomb explosion! Evil

Minimum in the feild of Psychology is a PhD. Anything less, you're just a lab coat wearer poking rats with mini tasers to see what their reactions would be- and work your studies for a higher degree based on that! Laughing

Yeah- considering all the work I do in computers and internet/information technologies, a BA/BS degree in Communications would be best for me. Hope to graduate in Summer 2010 or Spring 2011. Very Happy

guess I should've included that as a disclaimer when I made the thread, but I thought it was pretty clear when I had so many 50%/undetermined scores. I mean, honestly, only two of the four Jung test scores really apply to me.
So basically, general rules of psychology are about the same as general rules of health: they don't all apply to everyone... or as Lewis Black said, the only general rules of health that apply to everyone are as follows: The good die young, but pricks live forever.

Hey, I took one of these! I got ENFJ, just about a month ago!

That's the portrait of the Teacher, which is a kind of idealist. Smile
A bit surprising that they would call me an idealist, because I sometimes hear that word used to describe someone optimistic, whereas I am choleric melancholic with a sanguine exterior (that's a little fake... Sad ) and I'm not wholly alturistic....I just don't really believe that people will do the right thing if given the chance.
