Hello fellow GSG lovers! I'm only sort of new to this site. I've been here a couple of times before but it's been mostly lurking...-_-'
Little info about me: I've been reading GSG for a long time, since the first volume was released by ADV...I mostly followed the North America releases but volumes usually took a long time to be stocked.
And yes, I'm a girl. I find it disappointing that not many girls in anime circles know about this or have read it. The series was actually recommended by a friend of mine who bought the first volume. And yes, that person was a girl as well. I was reading typical shoujo manga back then but this just took my interest. Now almost 4-5 years later, I'm still following this as opposed to many of the shoujo stuff I read back then. GSG has become one of my fave series...
I also have to comment on the superb art and characters. Amazing use of detail. From the scenery, to the streets (i want to go to Italy!), to the characters and the fights. I'll never forget the Triela vs. Pinocchio fight!! At the same time, there's a bunch of themes on the humanity of the world. I can't help but feel sorry for the girls.
Anyways, that was long but whatever...this series is worth it. Hopefully it gains a lot more audience (girls come on! i know you gals are somewhere out there!)

Having reccomended this series to many people, I've found that I'm actually the only guy who likes it =O Anyway, methinks it's 'cos you need to be either sensitive/clever to get it, and comparatively fewer guys are...

I'm more the other way around, as I don't like paying tons for a series unless I know I'll like it.
Though I've started an anime/manga craze amongst my circle of friends as well as another that overlaps with mine

Thanks for the friendly greetings. Like T-chan most of the people that I know physically that read manga are girls...my problem is that they've never heard of this series!!!....and I highly recommend anything that comes from CLAMP or Ken Akamatsu. CLAMP's Wish and Love Hina were some of the first mangas I've read...

Welcome to the forum, Celest. You're far from alone here - there are quite a few female fans among our ranks. Feel free to participate in any of the discussions on the forum - we'd all love to hear your opinions!
The thing about Gunslinger Girl is that it doesn't just suffer from a shortage of female fans - it suffers from a shortage of fans in general. I won't deny that people like it, but its fanbase is hardly anywhere as large as, say, Gundam, Love Hina, Macross, Full Metal Panic or (shudder) Naruto. This is largely due to the uniqueness of its subject matter, I say - there's really nothing like it, and a lot of people are reluctant to embrace something so mold-breaking.

Unfortunetly, you are 100% correct
We have an anti-Naruto campaign in our school - essentially if certain people find out tht you like Naruto then they'll try and veer you off with something else It has worked in the past... It isn't forcing them to stop though, just an attempt to show them that there is far better stuff out there than Naruto (I got a GSG fan through that )

Have you also read:
Negima!? Ken Akamatsu
Chobits CLAMP
Tsubasa RESERVoiR CHROnicLE CLAMP
These are really good (some of my faves^0^)
I think I´m not going to suggest you Naruto because...yeah,...you know ...

Negima!? <<<not too fond of it. Love Hina is better to a greater extent
Chobits <<<quoted for the lovely romance...although a little inappropriate sometimes
Tsubasa RESERVoiR CHROnicLE <<<not interested. Read it a few time, lost interest in the way
I used to like Naruto, but not anymore.
Naruto is basically very predictable--not the story line, I mean, but the result of a battle. A main character got beaten up, then suddenly up comes a special attack and then they win. Bleach goes the same way. 15-16 year old surviving a deep cut right through the chest? Wow, if it was me I'll die of fatigue and stress received from the pain...
Its too linear, so to say...
What I suggest reading aside from Gunslinger Girl
School Rumble <<<keeps you glued and entertained all night long
SaiKano <<<My Girlfriend, the Ultimate Weapon. Nuff' said, self explanatory.
Elfen Lied <<<unconditional love
Wild Life <<<Pet doctor with a plus on his hearing ability
School Days <<<just read, follow to the end, then leave a comment.
Rave <<<A classic is what I can say. Ending's a bit dissapointing though...Mashima-sensei rather forced the happy ending
Humm...I'd love to list more things here, but I don't have any idea what else...

Re: Greetings =]
Negima!? << I like Love Hina very much but I think Negima is better than Love Hina..
Tsubasa RESERVoiR CHROnicLE <Aww... C´mon the storyline is pretty good, you meet other CLAMP Charachters and there´s FYE!!!<3 (Fye-fan )
Naruto<< You´re right with your description, but altough that I like it....
What´s School rumble about?
My Girlfriend, the Ultimate Weapon<< Ahh!!! Always wanted to read it, but I can´t find it in Germany...

School Rumble is about 'school drama'--or a real-like depiction of students with students in school, school festivals, etc. Although I have to say it reference our culture most of the time...but its a good insight!
SaiKano is lovely. Not so romantic, tragic, yes, but sweet too...
T-chan, you mind reading in English?
www.mangafox.com <<<<that should provide

Inuyasha was interesting at first, but as the series went along it became really full of itself.
Inuyasha gets more and more power modded as the series progresses, while the rest of the gang doesn't get any new tricks.
Ranma 1/2: same deal there. good when it starts out, but starts to suck somewhere in the middle.
