FMGs - Folding Submachineguns
You might have heard of the Magpul FMG-9 folding submachine gun (the "Glock in a box"), but it turns out there's actually a decent history of folding SMGs going back to the post-WWII era. Are these just a curiosity, or might they have some tactical value? I suppose they might be good for quick hit jobs, but besides that, they seem more awkward to use than regular guns. Thoughts?

Magpul FMG-9 is one of the cooler things I've seen. It'd be good as like a concealed PDW, I personally think.

I have to admite, Magpul's great at making cool-looking guns. I think they're tied with FN and Steyr in the wow-factor category, myself, what with the Vector, the PDR, and the FMG. The ACR wasn't bad looking either.

A program I watched that featured these (I usually don't go in for the gun-TV, but I was too loaded to look for the remote) and the manufacturer claimed their biggest customers were bodyguards and VIP protection firms.
I can see those applications fitting into the GsG universe rather nicely.
Rico: Awwww...but if I don't have to carry a violin case anymore how do I strike up conversations with cute boys?
Jean: What?
Rico: Ehhh...nothing!

Cute boys everywhere breathe a sigh of relief, after many of their number were killed by the smiling blonde angel of death. Seriously, the SWA must be really good at damage control, because I'd think someone would notice people getting killed by instrument-case carrying little girls that look drugged up.

If you watch the MilSpecMonkey video from SHOT Show '08, the guy at the MagPul booth says it's useful for when you're taking out the trash and need a weapon that's compact and can be disguised as something innocuous... like a flashlight.

I know he said that, but...I've never seen a flashlight like that. I know the Boatman M-21 was supposed to look like a radio, with an antenna and all, but no one carries radios anymore.

That Magpul is rad. A little painting/retooling might be able to disguise the thing as a kid's lunch box.

Now THAT's a good idea. Magpul totally missed the child assassin market here. XD

Re: FMGs - Folding Submachineguns
I have a correction to make. The picture I have labeled as the Ares FMG is actually a Russian copy called the PP-90 made in the early 90s. Because, you know, we have to copy each other no matter how poorly-executed the idea was. XD
Here's the actual Ares FMG.

Re: FMGs - Folding Submachineguns
The MAT-49
and the PP90
it looks like some one missed the gun bit as it looks like hell to shoot.
and there is a mp5 model that can be shot from inside a specially dessigned briefcase
