another website still lists it as Dec 1st , 2009..but as you can see amazon moved it to March 16th....tempting to buy for 42% off (weird they'd discount a title before it's even out...but w/e)

edit: looked at funimation's site it is indeed delayed to March 16th...wtf? I need my GSG HD goodness. I don't even wanna use my 30 dollars on something that's gonna come out in 7 months....lame T_T. I hope amazon discounts again closer to release...60 dollars is a bit much for 12 episodes

As long as it delivers on the image quality and possibly extras, I don't really mind a delay. I'm hoping that's what they're spending that time on.

Anime Blu-Ray sales are quite strong in Japan, so it may be an artificial constraint imposed by the licensors on Funimation to prevent reverse-importation of the significantly cheaper US set (It's about 1/4th the price of the Japanese set). The Japanese set is scheduled for release in late October so they probably worried too many folks would wait an extra month.

I canceled my Japanese order and instead ordered from Fumi because of the price difference and the closeness of the shipping date. Still, I'm okay with the delay since I don't watch GSG except for reference.

I am guessing the OAV still releases in December?

1st season BDRips are now available webwide. Has anyone got himself/herself acquainted so far? Rumours say something about 'poor rip, waiting for the nice one'...

Hmm, seems like only torrents are available right now. I think I'll wait until someone uploads them to USENET before I download them, that way I won't be too disappointed if they really are poor rips.

The DVDs look nice enough up-converted on my HDTV so I'm not going to bother with the BR rips and will just wait for the actual product to ship next year.

The Right Stuff has both Blu-ray disc sets (the original and -IL TEATRINO-) on pre-order sale for $29.99 each with a March 16 release date (though they often ship weeks early).

Arg, I really want to pre-order, but at the same time I don't want to make a commitment without seeing the image quality improvements.

I haven't seen any examples of the quality improvements, but I went ahead and pre-ordered it off RightStuf anyway .

Definetely not my most informed purchase, but I'm enough of a fan to trust that whatever small increase in quality it may have is worth it . Here's to hoping

I'm just worried that it's going to be a glorified upconverted one-disc collection; the convenience is nice, but I'd rather have my boxset any day of the week.

It only eats the bluray when the YLoD occurs. Otherwise you have a bulimic system.

Both Blu-ray sets arrived today. They don't look significantly better than the DVD's best I can tell. It is more convenient in this format, however.

I recommend you buy it, anyway, since the more GSG merchandise that sells, the better the chance we get more down the road. That Funi actually released GSG in their first wave of BR releases is a good sign, IMO.

Where did you find out that S1 was an upscale? I know there are plenty of upscaled Bluray animes out there, but I've always found it tricky to figure out which ones they are.
