It's a pistol on the thigh with a holster belt. Like a SWAT team.

What gun your OC will choose.

I love to have my OC get a MP7 on his right thigh. cheers

Kara's standard pistol is the H&K P2000 SK. She used a Beretta 93R once due to mission requirements, but her handler is an H&K snob and so she follows his lead.

I guess this gives me a chance to finally post the updated sidearms list for my OCs, at least for the primary/duty pistol category. Which is perhaps just as well, I'm less certain about some of the back up/serious concealed carry pieces.

Piero -Manurhin MR-73

Diana -Beretta 92FS

Andrei -HK USP-9

Alessia -HK USP-9 Compact

Gabriele -Bernardelli P.One VB

Sabina -Smith and Wesson SW3913LS (would have preferred a 3914NL, but those are long out of production)

Adriano -Beretta PX4 Storm

Felisa -Beretta PX4 Storm

Norina -Walther P99QA

Rosetta -do they even make thigh holsters for the Walther PPS (Rosetta has small hands, although then again, Henrietta probably does as well...)?

Miranda -Beretta 8000F Cougar

As for the Milan RPG characters and the Due Anima girls, things are kind of up in the air with them when it comes to sidearms. I'd actually really like to change Adelina's in particular, but hers has already been referenced in dialogue...

Don't think so. It's too new and holsters usually take a while to release. The PPS is too small for a conventional thigh-rig, so I take you mean thigh-carry in the sexy movie style. That method is not really good for anything larger than a Kel-Tec, and even then a snug dress will print the gun.

My OC Jamie carries a PPS IWB most of the time. On an open assault she used an M9 Beretta in a blackhawk drop-leg holster.

I was thinking that this thread was about tactical thigh holsters, the kind of holsters that would be used for full on assault missions (like perhaps assaulting a rural villa or something), not a mission where concealed carry was required. My question regarding the PPS was really whether anyone would bother making such a holster for the PPS because of the type of gun it is. Rosetta is the youngest of my first gen cyborg OCs and she's really tiny, which is part of the reason I've felt the PPS suits her, as her hands are pretty small. I honestly haven't thought a lot about her using the gun in the sort of situation this thread is talking about though.

Sabina's S&W is also pretty small for use as a general combat handgun, but while it's small it's not so small as to seriously compromise ergonomics and accuracy (in fact, I imagine Sabina finds the single stack grip quite comfortable compared to a lot of thicker guns) and in this situation I think she'd be using it as a back up to a rifle or submachine gun anyway, so I think she'd probably just stick with it.

Fernando perfers the shoulder holster or clip on to the back of the waist, and Rachel copies him accordingly. For the girls, it can also be in their purses. But it it has to be of what guns, it would have to be their 1911s or .32NAA. But the .32NAA is so small, it could fit nicely in a garter belt. Very Happy Francesca has a Sig 239.

I seriously doubt any of these would fit nicely in a 'quick draw cowboy' holsters, which these seem to be.

A holster is chose for it's purpose. A tactical holster is designed to drop the gun down off of the belt to ease movement and allow for more vest and pack space. Anyone who has worn an open-carry holster with a full-size pistol knows that you beat it around a bit and it makes bucket car seats uncomfortable. By dropping the gun onto the thigh, you are placing it at a point that requires no bending, and the gun doesn't really inhibit movement.

On the other hand, the upper thigh-strap on mine tends to ride up a bit, making things uncomfortable for the boys. It's my special occasion holster.

A women's thigh-strap is not convenient unless she's wearing a dress with a fairly high side-slit. As I said above, on such a dress, anything more than a 22 derringer is probably going to print. The purse is a much more convenient place.

Here's a convenient, real-world source for packing ladies.
http://corneredcat.com/Holster/howhide.aspx

The nice thing about fan-fict is that it's fiction. If you want Triela dolled up and flashing a thigh with a DEagle on it, have at it.

BTW, if you really want them armed in a dress, knives on the thigh are where it's at. great concealment and just as deadly in close.

My question in all this is, if you are going to be part of a government termination squad, why make yourself stand out with fancy cars and guns out in the open? You would want to be as non-visible to the pubic eye as possible, attract less attention to yourself than a fly in the room. Concealment it the way to go, looking like the average Joe on the street and not having the local brats oogle about your car as you do your business inside the building.

Um, guys, have you been listening to a word I've been saying here?

I don't view tactical thigh holsters as a day to day carry method for my characters. They are something that might be used in an assault on a rural villa or something. Other methods are preferred for day to day plainclothes carry. I was kind of going with the theme of the thread in this case.

I will admit I do sometimes strain credibility somewhat, such as Piero and Diana's use of vertical type shoulder holsters (which reportedly have a tendency to cause the grip to print in real life). But I try not to get too far out there.

BTW, the expert on concealed carry among my OCs is probably Miranda, a former undercover cop turned support staff member. That Beretta Cougar may be her pistol of choice when circumstances allow, but she's carried smaller stuff pretty frequently and she knows how to use said smaller stuff effectively. (I would however, like to find a good Italian made 9x17mm pocket pistol for her -I've had her listed as having a Walther PPK before, but she strikes me as the type who would prefer an Italian gun -so that she can tease her brother about his tendencies to use foreign made firearms, if nothing else.)

The 9x17 (or 380 Auto/ACP here in the states) comes in a lot of flavors. If you want to stick to Italian roots, the Beretta Cheetah is a possibility. It's not as small as the PPS. It actually is pretty close to a Bersa Thunder in size. Similar in design to the 92. The only issue I personally have with the Cheetah is the extremely limited amount of space to grip the slide. You end up slingshotting it which can be clumsy under stress. I prefer the overhand rack for speed and there's almost no space to grip.

The PPK is always an option, though a little cliche.
Note that the grip strength required to rack the slide on some of these smaller autos is sometimes a problem for real women, but likely not an issue for the cyborgs.

I have the Stoeger remake of the Beretta 8000. Great gun, though definitely a full-size weapon.

Miranda did use a Beretta 85 (the Cheetah name isn't used to market the gun in Europe) in the past, but I felt it was still a bit too big. Ditto the Bernardelli P6/P8.

I did however just recently manage to dredge up some additional sources on something called a Resolver M380 though, and while the sources don't entirely agree on it's specs, they do seem to point pretty strongly to it being comparable in size to a PPK. It's also a more modern design, so maybe it wouldn't be as prone to choking up on hollowpoint ammunition.

Only major problem is that it wasn't very successful commercially (it was a SITES design, same company that was behind the Spectre M4 submachine gun), so it migth be a bit of a stretch credibility wise for Miranda to have had one before joining the SWA (though I might just go with the idea that she ended up with one somehow). The design seems to have been revived by a newer company, but that's a recent development and for some reason they feel it's a good idea to remove the front of the trigger guard on their version...

On gun on your thigh you say.

Alpha doesn't carry a gun on his thigh rather he prefers to reserve those places for his custom ASP F31 tactical batons.

A covert infiltration specialist needs to be silent above all else and there's nothing more silent then CQC. Using his knowledge of Kali; Alpha handles the batons like a veteran escrimador. They also serve to augment and enhance his Jailhouse Rock based fighting style.

Although he does carry two pistols depending on the assignment.

Either a Stechkin APB chambered in 9x19 usually sits within his waistband behind him.

Or a HK MP5K-N which sits in the same area as his Stechkin however with the use of a breakaway holster.

No guns on Frederick's thighs. More like 2 on his belts (Mauser C-96s; both holstered close to his back)

his thigh holsters a survival knife or a swiss army knife. Either way, when things get awry in CQC, the knife works like charm

Thigh holsters are used primarily for those with long hands. To see what I mean, stand up straight and let your arms dangle by your side. Some are gifted with arms that stop at the hip, so that if you use a
hip holster your hand is right next to your gun. Others (like me) have longer hands and the thigh holster would put the gun right next to your hand, giving you a split-second advantage in a quick-draw situation. The other 'proper' time thigh holsters are used is when you're wearing your vest, tactical stuff etc and there's no space for a holster on your belt.

Thigh holsters were made popular in movies where the femme fatale would hitch up the hem of her dress, show the unsuspecting victim (and the rest of the world) a lot of leg before taking him out. Something Triela or Petra might do.

The best kind of holster for the SWA is the shoulder holster. Wear a jacket over and it's barely visible, though I find that the version that holds the gun horizontally (the one Rico uses) can sometimes be seen, especially if the user is small-sized (I actually had some fun with that in my story)

Still can't decide how Allison should carry her sidearm when it has to be concealed. Shoulder holster? In-the-waistband?

What she does carry is a Kimber SIS Custom/RL in .45 ACP, though I'm thinking of taking a page from Rally Vincent's bag of tricks and giving her a spring-loaded arm holster with a CZ 95 chambered for .25 ACP. It's meant primarily for missions where she wears long-sleeved outfits and as a surprise holdout gun.

Not to mention since she drives on a lot of her missions, she often keeps her Kimber in the door pocket.

Arm holsters are an excellent idea.

Sometimes speed isn't enough. You need better equipment to go along with better technique. After all, I've been previously asked how my OC , Alpha, drew so fast on Rico.

A spring loaded mechanical in sleeve gun holster? No way.

Boomer is right; technique is everything.
My OCs Fernando uses dual shoulder holsters inside his suit and can draw faster than most, but usually will tear up the inside of the suit doing so. Rachel and Francesca have a clip on holster that fits in the small of the back attached to the waist of their skirts. Rachel has been able to outdraw most of the cyborgs in the dorm. Francesca is still unknown, but she ability is still superior to normal people- not bad for a cyborg once considered dead. Fernando and Rachel carry 1911 .45ACP variants and 32NAAs, Francesca carries a SiG 9mm.

Well, just blame me reading too much Gunsmith Cats. I think Rally's technique is cool, but then, she's normally dealing with thugs.

Allison is in a grey area; She's not quite a combat cyborg, yet she is constantly training to be a doorkicker despite mostly spending time behind the wheel.

I've been reading Gunsmith Cats since Ben Dunn published them back in the 1990's. Rally is not perfect, and has paid the price for being a stupid show off in the early series more than once. Excellent Series though I will admit; and yes I have the Original Rally and Mini dolls that came out before the Manga did. NOTE: I never read the Manga Version, so I do not know how much was changed from the early 1990 series.

Rachel was never a combat cyborg. She is just Daddy's little girl who has been taught to take shit from no one and has proven herself even when the odds were against her. Thusly she takes his training seriously and his orders to absolute action. She is one hell of a door kicker, room slider and rapid target shooter; her clearing out rooms would be more like a dance to most. Win or lose, the other cyborgs respect her for her tenacity and viciousness. There are not many out there that can claim part of Rico's scalp as their trophy Evil

Francesca as per her Genesis Definition was the ultimate cyborg as far as conditioning was concerned. She followed her handler's orders precisely, even if it meant her demise. But with training, and a lot of luck, she managed to survived as long as she did - 9 months before being 'KIA.' You will find out the rest of this as following chapters unfold. Mind you, in this universe, her and Alpha were the first and it was unsure that it would even work at all. Being successful as they were only allowed more units to be built.

Monty tends to change how she carries her PPK depending on what she's wearing or what she's doing. Suits she has a shoulder holster. For the 60's style day-dresses she wears, something on the thigh would probably work (as those dresses are short and aren't exactly form fitting)... then there's outfits like the safari suit the she wore in the Bahamas, in which case it's just jammed in her belt with the shirt flicked over the top. Free running she keeps it in the small of her back.

Like Allison she's not really a cyborg really a heavy combat cyborg so her draw isn't all that fast and she doesn't carry much ammunition with her either (one spare mag, if at all).
