Post by Nachtsider Mon 8 Oct 2007 - 23:43

Could somebody post whatever information is known about the second-stage cyborgs (their names, origins, abilities, handlers, et cetera) for the benefit of one who knows absolutely jack...?

The Second-Stagers Empty Re: The Second-Stagers

Post by LoC978 Tue 9 Oct 2007 - 1:15

here's what I got so far (with pictures!):

We've seen four second-stage cyborgs so far, but as far as I know, Petrushka and Alessandro are the only second-stage fratello that have names, a background, or even a handler (excluding fan-created pet names and whatever the volume 9 translations will reveal to us)

ORIGINS:
Petrushka's origin goes something like this: she was a very talented and semi-famous high school age Russian ballerina named Elizabeta Baranovskaya who felt she was too short to be one of the greats. That became the least of her problems when she developed a tumor in her foot. She was moved to Italy for treatment, but it was too late. The foot had to be amputated, and she tried to commit suicide by jumping off a building.

Alessandro was in intelligence, working for Section 1. Before that, he worked for the Ministry of the interior. Before that he grew up observing a lot of people from a window, so apparently that made him good at reading people. Unlike the other handlers, he's not ex-military. He has no combat experience or military discipline. When Marco tells him: "A cyborg is like your hair, don't feel bad when you have to brush it. Just treat her like a buck private." Alessandro says he wouldn't know how to do that.

TECH:
Petrushka (Petra for short) is built differently from the other cyborgs. For one, she's not nearly as tough. As far as I can tell, more of her is artificial (like, everything but the nervous system and part of the skeleton). She's made of lighter material (can't find the reference for that one, but I know I read it in the manga). She doesn't remember anything at all from before her reconstruction, and it seems they can program knowledge into her head.
... and she has breasts. That's a first, too (not a good one, in my opinion... a cyborg with sex appeal ruins the 'innocence in tradgedy' feel of the series).

WEAPONRY:
Petrushka: SITES Spectre M4 SMG (9mm, 30 or 50 round mags), Taurus PT92 (Beretta 92F clone, 9mm), her fists, and a fucking slingshot.

Alessandro: a Beretta 92F, or maybe another Taurus PT92. He draws it once in volume 8.

This is great, LoC. The pre-programming is an interesting and, in my opinion, welcome touch, but it seems immensely odd that the Agency would opt to regress where it comes to armor and pick a green individual like 'Sandro for a handler.

Hmph. If you ask me, having a cyborg older than thirteen just spoils everything - part of what made Gunslinger Girl so unique and appealing was the fact that its protagonists were innocent young children. This change doesn't come across as good, but I suppose only time will tell whether the series goes downhill or otherwise.

She should have breasts; she is the oldest individual to be put through the cyborg process at 16. Most girls by them should have something.

Also, Type/Stage 2 cyborgs can receive commands from both the agency and their handlers. Stage 1 cyborgs have a difficult time accepting orders outside from their handlers, but as shown in Cleas's case, they can be rewritten to do so. And as Henrietta stated, "When its from the agency, I have to do it. But when its from Jose, I want to do it."- which is a major difference on how that is done.

I'm not saying that she shouldn't have breasts, I'm saying she shouldn't be a cyborg:

-sex appeal has no place in that formula.

Ah... I see.
But a preteen (10,11,12)/young teen (13,14...) is still as innocent as a younger kid... to some point. I would agree that Petra is a bit too old for the group, and they should have choosen somebody much younger.

But I dont write the cannon material, just a fanfict thereof

Not really, since Petrushka remains the only one to appear more than in just a cameo.
