I did read it all yesterday and, to be bluntly honest, I found it about as enjoyable as Hillshire did watching the Amsterdam snuff films.
I also gave his Kannami manga a try and found what he had posted so far was interesting. Then I made the mistake of reading the author's synopsis of where the story would be going and discovered she's sexually infatuated with her brother and will be committing murder and mayhem in future installments to ensure he loves only her the way she loves him.
At that point, I didn't want to give any of his other works a try. I just figure his idea of entertainment is not something I personally find entertaining.

Different people have different tastes and senses of humor. *shrug*
Suffice it to say, I didn't find it enjoyable for a variety of reasons, though I will admit to chuckling at Henrietta's "I pay you to f**k, not talk" comment to Rico.

Re: Whatface's stash of stuff
I made this for a competition. The theme was 'Reverse love and hate'.
Basically we're supposed take characters that hate each other and depict what it'll be like if they liked each other, and vice versa.
Humans don't hate the Diclonius anymore. But now because the Diclonius aren't locked up, they have taken over the world...
Lucy and Nana are now best friends. I think the rest is self explanatory.
No, Mayu isn't sad about Wanta being butchered by Lucy. She's just upset that Nana beat the hell out of her.

Re: Whatface's stash of stuff
I found Elfen Lied to be a very underwhelming experience. It's not so much a disaffection from the show's "provocative" themes, it's just not... very... good.
It's notorious for its gory and explicit opening scene when a naked girl headbangs a base's security staff (and one ditzy girly gofer), of course, but for all of its liberal applications of blood, heads kicked like footballs and fresh ripe bosoms swelling with the full rich flower of fertile maidenhood, it's frankly rather dull. There's no variety or movement to the scene - the killer literally just shuffles down a corridor while guards stand stock still and blaze away at her ineffectually, before they pop like balloons.
There's also the matter that the Kohta, the male lead, is perhaps the most insipid character to ever be inflicted on me in all of my anime viewing. :\
I have the DVD collection of the series, and I've trudged through the torrid experience of some six episodes, but I have no real urge to finish them off... that lack of enthusiasm, despite stumping up £50 for the set, is probably as succinct a summation as any.

Really? Being a girl I know it's odd, but I LOVE this series. I think the characters were amazing (I HATE Yuka however) the fight scenes were awesome, and it's just a series that is sad overall.
It kinda reminds me of Gunslinger Girl. The fact that these girls are in isolation and tested on, and all. In fact a lot of people who like Elfen Lied like Gunslinger Girl, and vice versa. I think you should watch the rest of this anime. It truly is amazing. I cried quite a bit while watching it, epically with what happens to Nana. (My favorite character)
I know Kouta can be a bit dense as well, but you'll understand why as you watch it. I hope you give this a second chance. ^_^

Oh, don't get me wrong, I have no issues with the principle of violence - I moderate a Warhammer 40,000 forum elsewhere on the web, it takes nothing less than a city being nuked to get me out of bed in the morning! - and in all fairness some of the later fights that I watched were decent. I just don't think that the execution of that opening scene was handled well at all.
Hmm. Maybe he develops in later episodes, but my experience of him up to now was disaffecting. A while back, the "Hey, Answerman!" column on ANN asked us to write about our "most obnoxious, irritating, or otherwise downright dislikable anime hero(ine)". Kohta was my choice. (I've put the message itself in the spoiler below for anyone interested).
On the basis of your reccommendation I'll give Elfen Lied another try, Triela, but it has its work cut out...

(I've put the message itself in the spoiler below for anyone interested).
- Spoiler:
- Without qualification or hesitation, Elfin Lied's Kohta.
Now, I prefer a wide variety of characters and personalities visible in a programme's cast, and I'm not one to demand that every hero in anime satisfies the stereotype of macho posturing. For instance, while NGE's Shinji and his infamous "wangst" is often a subject of mockery nowadays, it was an honest endeavour to depict a genuinely tormented figure and I think that's laudable. A number of directors and scriptwriters also recognise that breadth is needed, but unfortunately they often lurch too far the other way. Instead of the strong, rugged and predictable (but still enjoyable!) we get the inept, imbecilic and contemptible- Kohta is a prime example for this malaise.
Elfien Lied is a series that I remember for two things - its healthy lashings of arterial spray & lopping off limbs with gay abandon; and those immaculate celestial orbs sweilling richly with the ripe and succulent promise of blossoming woma-- (erm, sorry, getting distracted there) - but little else. It's not that there's nothing memorable beyond the B&G and T&A, but that I've suppressed memories of Kohta and his miserable litany of failure.
He is stupid. This isn't in a "comedy goofball" or "heartbreakingly desperate" sense, but rather someone who is so myopic I'm sure that he needs someone else to pick his nose for him. The protagonist should be the motor which drives the adventure - that's half the meaning of the word - but Kohta's ungulate fumbling can't even find the ignition switch.
He is socially awkward. There's nothing inherently wrong with this character trait, but it goes beyond inexperience and into incoherency. His stumbling relationship with love interest Yuka is a case in point - the insensitivity and inability to communicate may be normal for young lovers, but how Kohta can willingly bond himself to the toxic poison of someone blustering into his life still hung up on a pre-adolescent crush and who literally punches him out for every perceived slight or slip of inattentiveness? It makes me wonder if I'm watching a drama series or a reel of binned cutting-room edits from rejected scripts for Love Hina. There's a time when constant pratfalls stop being hilarious and start being pitiable.
He is spineless. Not being a macho figure does not mean that the character must have every vestige of moral fibre ripped out of him. There's not even any real reason for his unwillingness to assert himself - no sense of terror, no wracked internal conflict of right or duty - he just folds like a house of cards at the first breath of opposition. He is impotent, and also devoid of any sense of physical or moral courage.
He can't even make pretensions of being an "everyman" figure, because even a junkie stoned off his rocks would struggle to shuffle about in such a dense fog of incompetent befuddlement as Kohta does.
The most that can be said for Kohta is that he is a signal study in insipidness... but I'm happy to read about that sort of thing in a Psychology Today article, not endure six and a half interminable hours of his reedy bleating (and pay fifty pounds for the dubious privilege, at that).
Elfen Lied did have a lot to offer, but Kohta actively spoiled the remainder of the programme for me. Characters do not have to be likable, but they do have to be relatable, and the snivelling smear of flesh that was Kohta was irredeemably pathetic.
On the basis of your reccommendation I'll give Elfen Lied another try, Triela, but it has its work cut out...

Re: Whatface's stash of stuff
Yesterday, I went to my first ever lecture/tutorial for my elective "Principles of Animation". Yay! Supposedly they teach you who to animate in 3D.
Bad news is, they changed the subject so that its no longer about 3D animation. Now it's about 2D animation with Flash and all that.
WHAT!? I wanted to learn 3D animation!!
Oh well, at least I know I'll ace it for sure.
Right, so aim of the day was to learn how to make a typical ball bouncing up and down loop in Flash....
Sheesh, I made this in the first 10 minutes of the lecture/tutorial when the guy was still going over the Unit of Study overview.

As for the -1000 card (if that's what you're talking about) it would look something like this:
But there's nothing there! That's because with minus motivation I won't be motivated to make anything in the first place

Re: Whatface's stash of stuff
Sup guys,
I haven't posted in this thread of a while. I just finished a bulk of my assessments and an animation project for uni. I planned on uploading everything I have onto deviantart once I had got some free time, but a close relative recently past away. Now I don't feel like uploading anything anymore. Just trying to get over it.
I did manage to take a couple of screenshots from my animation project though
Some futuristic artillery vehicle

I'm sorry to hear about your relative, Whatface - my deepest condolences go out to you. Don't worry about the art thing - great as your stuff is, I'm willing to put aside my eagerness to see more and give you all the time you need to recover.

Thanks Nacht, West, TTIO. You guys are really good online buddies.
Whether its Muffin making a cameo appearance or if its just a Muffin look-a-like is up to you to decide.West Nile wrote:muffin (is that really her?)

I like to think it's a Muffin Cameo (not to be confused with a Cammo Muffin).
