Years ago, I would never considering myself typing this, but a few days have passed since I recovered from a memory error with my main multitasker. The kernel on this very computer has been transferred from HDD to HDD for over a decade. As components were upgraded like motherboards, RAM, video cards, etc; this kernel has been with me through thick and thin.

I have been defiant in upgrading the OS as it's been incredibly sturdy and has never...and I mean NEVER...failed to produce when other, supposedly better, OS builds simply wouldn't...or couldn't. However...this error cannot be repaired without increasing the pagefile beyond the operating systems allowable hardware parameters. This kernel was my very first...and will be my very last to run Windows XP Professional 64-bit edition.

When it's creator stopped supporting it, I found a community of like minded individuals who soldiered on and created an underground network of jury-riggers who modified security updates for other Windows builds to work with XP. Together we found workarounds to allow necessary drivers and modern applications to run just as smoothly with XP as they did with 7, 8/8.1, and especially 10.

We soldiered on as a result of our mutual love for what can only be described as a rock-solid OS who's durability is what all other Windows OS durability is..and will be measured against. But this...this is something I can't fix. Not without either a complete registry wipe...or a clean re-install. I loved you from the moment I saw you XP, but as much as I wish I could hold on to you. I know you'll only be suffering again and the next time might be sooner and even harsher.

Common rationale says that you are not supposed to feel emotional for a machine, inanimate and mechanical. However, it's hard not to feel emotional for something I've been passionate about for so long. XP...I'm sorry...and I'll miss you.

Agreed it is very reminiscent of that scene. Also Its finals week so exam proctoring and grading..... woohoo
