Most depressing moment of my short life...
For Pete's sake guys, the military is giving me no breaks!
Got a letter from MEPS while waiting on my recruiter to get back to me on some Medical Consultations I was going to need. Apparently they went ahead and DQ'd me from military service, which surprised the hell out of my recruiter. It seems nothing is going to go right for me...
There are still a few options and I'm going to be fighting it but...honestly it may be a lost cause, I really hope it isn't
Did I mention I'm sick too?

Good grief, kid. Wish I had some advice for you. I'm having a hard time believing that the U.S. military, which even accepts non-citizens into its ranks, should be so eager to shitcan the ambitions of a bright and talented young man eager to serve.

Right now, the military is a seller's market... wait for the next big war, and all the restrictions will get lifted again. If they were letting criminals in to the Army during the last round, I feel certain they'll see about waivering your asthma. Maybe not for the puddle pirates, though...

Thing is I don't have asthma and brought tests proving as much. I run Cross Country which is pretty rigorious is. My recruiter is baffled over it as well.Officer_Charon wrote:Right now, the military is a seller's market... wait for the next big war, and all the restrictions will get lifted again. Yay for MEPS!
My recruiter is going to see what he can do. I'm drawing up letters to my state congressmen, generally a safe way to go if needed...

After a fortuitous settlement negotiation and some crazy packing skills, I now have a new place. The main unfortunate is that my old landlord said that I should be in no rush to pack up which I can almost be sure to mean that he is in no hurry to make repairs on my old place. I'm gonna miss that old dump.

Re: Boo-boos and Owies
Get better soon, PE.
Got back from a trip to Hawai'i where all my tech broke.
0. I decided to simplify my Microsoft Band fitness monitor to the bare essentials. (This wasn't a case of broken tech, but it plays into it later.) This means removing all the icons save the most basic ones (weather, notifications, sleep and settings.)
1. Just before getting on board ship, I applied an internal beta update to my Windows Phone, which broke (among other things) Bluetooth and panorama mode. It did add some nice things, such as organizing the Options screen, but...
2. I have some headphones I love (Bluedio HTs) because they work as headsets (cell phone calls) as well as headphones (music and video). These normally work on Bluetooth, which is now not working.
3. That's fine seeing as they ship with a 3.5mm cable for music headphone use. Which I break two days into the cruise.
4. I start trying to exercise (if you call panting and loping around the deck as 'exercise') and want to add the 'workout' function back to the Microsoft Band. But... it's configured by Bluetooth.
5. I try to connect it to my Microsoft Surface Pro 2 tablet by Bluetooth. It pairs with it, but doesn't have the drivers. Oh, and I discover that I broke the headphone jack on my Surface, so I have to use Bluetooth with my Surface tablet/convertible.
6. Okay, I'll restore my Microsoft Band back to factory settings. I'll lose my stored data, but at least the factory set of icons will be restored so I can use the 'Workout' icon. If I recall correctly, all I have to do is reset it, then plug it into my Surface by its custom charging cable.
Nope. It goes into 'looking for smartphone' mode. And it was on that mode for the rest of the cruise.

Yeah, I know I'm too old to onboard as an SWA cyborg. (I might make a decent handler, though) Besides, given how I see life as an agency cyborg, as evidenced by my Dina fanfic, I'm not sure I want to.

They pay is good though...taerKitty wrote:Yeah, I know I'm too old to onboard as an SWA cyborg. (I might make a decent handler, though) Besides, given how I see life as an agency cyborg, as evidenced by my Dina fanfic, I'm not sure I want to.

I know they get room, board, and really, really good medical, but I don't remember any compensation package. Do they get stock options? Or do they get paid in 9mm?

I think they get stock in a cybernetics corporation. I think it is a limited compensation package, though it has free medical care.taerKitty wrote:I know they get room, board, and really, really good medical, but I don't remember any compensation package. Life insurance policy is pretty nice. So there is that too.

As a handler, I'd be more interested in a life assurance policy...

Remember, a life insurance policy isn't for the one who dies, but for the ones who live.

Mario Bossi would make a better handler than Marco Toni. Come to think of it, so would Christiano.

Ouch, Taer... Yeah, hearing about a broken rib is bad enough for those of us not experiencing the pain. Seeing the actual break in the bone puts it all into even greater perspective.
But, yeah... I agree with Alfi here, but I recommend the carbon fiber instead. It's much, much lighter. And have the docs do all the ribs at once, as well as any other bones they can get to, just for the sake of efficiency.
