This is cause for celebration!

Yes, that's a real offer letter; I just edited it for privacy reasons. It's a company in Hayward, CA that builds and distributes musical equipment (amps, guitars, etc); it's less than two miles from where I used to work and it's only 15 minutes away from home so I can still drive my project car. Obviously, this is a huge deal for me; I've been unemployed since May of this year thanks to the rotten economy trying to break into an industry that's got a TON of competition. I'll admit, I'm probably a bit underpaid, but it's still more than what I was making before and there's only two of us in the IT department, so I know I'm going to learn a lot.

I've never wanted something so badly in my life and I'm genuinely happy that I've been blessed with this opportunity. Anyway, this might mean less time to hang around here, but I'm never really far away.

Thanks for all of the comments! I managed to survive the first day, but I gotta admit, this was easily the toughest start I've ever had to go through.

I know first days are always a drag since everything kinda gets thrown on you at the same time, but since their system runs almost exclusively on Linux, which I know little about, there's a lot of extra pressure to catch up quickly. I'm going to keep plugging away at it though, this isn't my first time facing an unfamiliar environment.

Hehe, you're learning about possibly the most important OS on the planet. Linux is where real work gets done, and one can do more with Linux than with any other OS I know of. Keep at it!

Yeah, after a couple of weeks I'm starting to fall into the groove a little bit and getting the hang of the company software as well as earning the employees' trust.

I was getting cross-eyed there the first couple of days with so much stuff being thrown at me, particularly names; I hate it when people get my name wrong so I always make an effort to remember people's names.

Another cause for celebration. Today our own Triela made her first coast-to-coast trip. May she find a safe jouurney, a safe vacation, and happy times all around.
